Brussels, 10/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - In the context of the agreement on scientific and technological cooperation between the European Union and the United States, Commissioner Philippe Busquin and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham will sign an agreement, in Brussels on Monday, for the implementation of cooperation in research on non-nuclear energy.
The agreement provides for: - mutual possibilities for the participation of scientists in the research programmes set in place by the other party; - the exchange and the provision of data and information on research activities; - exchanges for researchers, engineers and other specialists; - the exchange or the provision of samples, etc. The areas covered are: (1) fossil fuel energy resources (including, but not exclusively, the production of electricity and the attenuation of climate change); (2) new energy sources (including fuel cells and the use of hydrogen); (3) energy output (including transport and energy storage); (4) the sharing of research installations and single development policy. Each party will be responsible for the financing of activities by its own research workers.
