Brussels, 23/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - On 22 February, the Swedish Presidency made the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The EU welcomes the formation of a new Council of Ministers in Bosnia-Herzegovina today. The EU expresses its hope that this will be the reform-oriented government that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs more than five years after the signing of the Dayton/Paris Accords and nearly four months after the last elections. The EU calls on the new Council of Ministers to undertake, without delay, the serious reforms required to improve the social and economic situation in the country, and to work for the benefit of all people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Union also urges the new government to take action to fulfil, by the middle of 2001, all the conditions laid down in the "EU road map" drawn up last spring; thus as recalled at the Zagreb Summit, enabling Bosnia-Herzegovina to move on the path towards European integration. The EU stands ready to assist in these efforts. The EU calls on all political parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina to respect the results of the elections, and expects no further delay in the formation of governments at all other levels or in the process of electing delegates to the House of Peoples at the Federation and State levels. The EU expresses its continued support to the High Representative in his endeavours to support the implementation of the Dayton/Paris accords."
