ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) banking

The Turkish banking regulatory and supervision committee (BDDK) has announced the merger of several banks under State tutelage so as to cleanse the banking sector in crisis. According to the Anatolie press agency, EGEBANK, YURTBANK, YASARBANK AND BANKAPITAL will merge together under the name SUMERBANK, these establishment not have been judged sufficiently attractive for possible buyers. Four other banks under State tutelage have, on the other hand, aroused interest on the part of several investors; these are BAN EKSPRESS, ESBANK, OINTERBANK and TURKBANK. The BDDK has also placed DEMIRBANK up for sale, another bankrupt establishment and is waiting for bids from possible takers.
