Brussels, 17/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The complaint filed by the Gucci group (Italy, luxury leather-ware) against the French group LVMH (which controls Christian Dior and other major firms) for abuse of dominant position, received a double confirmation on Wednesday - by a spokesman of the European Commission, in Brussels, and by Gucci CEO Mr Domenico De Sole, in Milan.
The complaint had been filed last November. Mr De Sole declared that it was Gucci's opinion that LVMH violates the European competition rules on the luxury leatherware market by using its position as a Gucci shareholder (holding 20% of the share capital) to destabilise the Italian firm. The Commission spokesman pointed out that the complaint is being studied and it is still far too early to say whether it will be admissible and founded.
