Brussels, 08/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is holding on Tuesday 9 January its traditional start-of-the-year meeting with the new President of the EU Council.
On Tuesday, in Stockholm, there will first be a meeting between Commission President Romano Prodi and the President-in-Office of the European Council, Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson, followed by a meeting between the College of Commissioners and the entire Swedish Government. The Commissioners will then meet separately, as usual, the Presidents of the different Councils of the Union.
The Commissioner charged with institutional affairs, Michel Barnier, will take advantage of the opportunity to meet young people in Stockholm, within the framework of the Dialogue on Europe.
The first Commission meeting of 2001 will be held on Wednesday 10 January.
