Brussels, 08/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Union's Special Representative for the peace process in the Middle East, Miguel Angel Moratinos, will be in Teheran on Tuesday 9 January, in the framework of talks between the EU and Iran over the reconstruction of Southern Lebanon, "especially following the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the country", says a press release, recalling that the European Union is "prepared to participate in the international effort at the reconstruction of Southern Lebanon, which it regards as a priority at this historic moment".
The press release stipulates that Mr. Moratinos, who is to meet officials from the Foreign Ministry in Teheran, also intends raising relations between the EU and the Islamic Republic of Iran and the strengthening of "reciprocal political exchanges", as well as regional stability and the role, in that context, of Iran and the European Union.
