ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) cement

The French group LAFARGE (building materials) has announced the launch of a friendly bid on the British cement maker BLUE CIRCLE. The Sunday Telegraph is reporting that, after the failure last May of its public takeover bid, LAFARGE is biding GBP 3.1 billion for all BLUE CIRCLE shares. This new proposal is equivalent to 495 pence a share, up from 450 pence proposed last spring. See EI of 5 and 25 May 2000.
