Geneva, 07/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - In Geneva, the Union has disputed the decision of the Arbitration Panel that had condemned certain aspects of its anti-dumping measures on the import of cotton bed sheets originating in India. The Appellate Body of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has been invited to review the reasoning and, whence, the verdict of the special group, as it "committed errors in its interpretation" of the rules of reference for determining the existence and scale of the dumping (see EUROPE of 4 November, p.12). The conclusions of the seven experts of the Appellate Body are expected by 1 February next. The Arbitration Panel had pointed to shortcomings in the methodology and procedure used by the European Commission in this affair going back to November 1997, while rejecting most Indian allegations.
