24/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council adopted a decision the postpones the EU contribution towards the fight against the destabilising accumulation and spread of small arms and small calibre weapons in Cambodia, by foreseeing a financial support of EUR 1.3 million to the Cambodian authorities. On 15 November 1999, the Council took a CFSP decision, attached with a financial aid of EUR 500,000, but the aims set were not reached on 15 November 2000, with the expiry of the decision, while the EU intends to present the positive results to the United Nations International Conference on the illegal trade in these arms, planned for July-August 2001.
