ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) privatisation

- Greece: The Greek government points out that the call for bids for the acquisition of 49% of the capital of the public aeronautics manufacturer HAI - HELLENIC AEROSPACE INDUSTRY was not admissible. It has therefore postponed the operation. One of the two bids came from the EUROFIGHTER consortium (which groups EADS, BAE SYSTEMS and ALENIA), which offered $ 260 million in exchange for a minority stake, and the other from several French aeronautical groups (DASSAULT AVIATION, SNECMA, THOMSON-CSF) with which the Greek companies AXXON and INTRACOM are associated. They were rejected as their amount was far lower than the minimum threshold fixed by the State, as the "government will only privatise HAI if it is in the interests of the public and of the Greek people". - Algeria: The Algerian minister for participation and coordination of reforms, Hamid Temmar, has announced that the government planned to launch, within the next three weeks, a first wave of privatisation that will affect 60 public enterprises. The State's programme for disinvestment will concern a total of 102 companies of a national kind as well as 70 companies of a regional kind. - India: The Indian State has launched the process for selling up its 50% share in the leading national automobile manufacturer MUL - MARUTI UDYOG LTD (60% of shares of national market) the other half of which is held by Japanese SUZUKI MOTOR CORPORATION.
