Brussels, 06/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - "Consumers and the modernisation of social protection in Europe": these are the themes of the conference that will take place this Tuesday 7 November in Brussels. It is jointly organised by the European Policy Forum (EPF), the European Federation for Retirement Provision (EFRP), the Konrad Adenaur Stiftung and the Frankfurter Institute, and is sponsored by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF).
The Conference will be chaired by Lord Tugendhat, former European Commissioner and will gather representatives from the pensions and insurance sectors, legislators and political decision-makers. It follows on from the Lisbon Summit last March, which had called for a report on social protection in Europe, by granting special attention to the longevity of pension systems. Notably taking part will be: Kees Van Rees, President of the EFRP, Odile Quintin, Director General of DG Employment/Social Affairs in the European Commission; Wolfgang Ohndorf, German Employment Minister, Barbara Saunders, Financial service consumers panel, Jan Anderson, MEP.
The works will be divided into six sessions: 1) role of private pensions in the modernisation of social protection in Europe, 2) additional pensions and free movement of workers, 3) prospects for growth of private pensions in Europe, 4) the voice of consumers, 5) e-commerce and pension regulations, 6) prospects from national regulators on consumer protection.
