European Science and Technology Week starts on Monday

Brussels, 02/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Science and Technology Week will run from Monday 6 November to 11 November. This week of activities throughout the different Member States is one of the activities funded under the Raising Public Awareness of Science and Technology action of the European Commission's Fifth Framework Research Programme. This year's activities aim to: - get people interested in the positive impact of the sun on our daily life (a roaming exhibition which will be shown in museums in France, Belgium, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands); - explain the consequences of the discovery of radioactivity and its applications (France, Germany and Italy); - enhance citizens' understanding of global warming and its impact on the climate of tomorrow by means of a conference on the subject; - stimulate young people's interest in physics and maths (Germany, Belgium, Spain, Finland, Luxembourg and France); - explain the latest developments in genetics by means of Genetics in Europe Open Days in five Member States where scientists will meet journalists and the public to discuss the issues.
