Alcoa takeover of British Aluminium approved

Brussels, 30/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the takeover of the British firm British Aluminium Ltd, 100% subsidiary of Luxfer Holdings Plc, by the American aluminium producer Alcoa Inc.. The transaction will have repercussions on the European market regarding finished and semi-finished aluminium products (flat rolled, extrusions, foils) and certain local aluminium distribution activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Nevertheless, the new entity will have limited market shares in these sectors where rival companies also operate. The world's foremost manufacturer of aluminium, Alcoa is present at all levels in the sector in the EU, North America, Brazil, Australia, Japan and China. British aluminium, for its part. Has five companies which have as activity the manufacture and distribution of finished and semi-finished aluminium products.
