Bayonne, 11/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Several Basque movements - Euskal Herritarrok, Abertzaleen Batasuna, Haika, Coordination of Committees in Support of Basque Political Prisoners, Gestoras Pro Aministia and LAB - are organising from 9 to 14 October a "Biarritz Counter Summit", that will end with a demonstration in Bayonne in order to draw attention to "political, civil and cultural rights" of the Basque Country. The organisers state that they "do not agree with this new model of Europe", and say a "Europe of States is being created in opposition to those unrecognised nations" (such as the Basque Country, Catalonia, Scotland, Brittany, Corsica …). They wish to tell participants at the European Council that "we want to create the tools in order to guarantee our own future, that is, respect for Basque territoriality, Basque democracy, the right to self-determination of the Basque Country and, why not, a Basque State".
