Brussels, 10/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the institutions of the European Union condemned a further ETA attack of which the General Prosecutor of Andalousia was the victim.
Thus, European Commissioner Antonio Vitorino, responsible for justice and home affairs, once more said that terrorism violated the EU's fundamental principles that are "the respect of human life, tolerance, democracy and human rights", and that is was "one of the greatest challenges facing our societies". Mr. Vitorino reiterated the Commission's undertaking to "encourage, by all the means granted to it by the Treaties the strengthening of European action against terrorism wherever it strikes in Europe" (see EUROPE of 22 September, pages 5 and 6, for the debate in the European Parliament on terrorism, in the Brussels plenary session).
