Brussels, 20/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Chris Patten, Commissioner for External Relations, began on Thursday his sixth visit to the Balkans since he took over his duties, thus showing, according to the Commission's note, "the Commissioner's personal determination to help drive forward progress on the ground as a part of the EU's Stabilisation and Association process for South East Europe". The Commissioner's visit, on Thursday to Pristina (Kosovo) will focus on the question of energy supplies to Kosovo during the winter. He will meet the team responsible for renovating the Kosovo B power station with European funds, and will then discuss with UN Chief Administrator in Kosovo (UNMIK), Bernard Kouchner, at the operational centre of the European Reconstruction Agency. The Commissioner will then go on to Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) where he will meet the country's tripartite presidency, Foreign Minister Prlic and the representative for the international community, Petrisch. On Friday afternoon, he will meet in Zagreb (Croatia) President Mesic, as well as Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Picçula, and European integration, Jakovic.
