Brussels, 20/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem met the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, in Brussels on Tuesday evening. At the close of the meeting, he confirmed to the press that he had just had, in New York, with his Greek counterpart, George Papandreou, "very constructive discussions" concerning the development of confidence-building measures between the two countries (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.4). In reply to a question about the possibility of Mr Solana assuming a mediation role to accelerate Greek/Turkish rapprochement through confidence measures, states the Greek agency ANA, Mr Cem affirmed that "Mr Solana is always prepared to offer his good services and it depends on us (Greece and Turkey) to request such a thing from him".
