The Irish pharmaceutical laboratory ELAN CORPORATION (turnover of more than one billion dollars in 1999) announced an offer of EUR 1.8 billion to acquire DURA PHARMACEUTICALS (turnover of USD 301 million in 1999 with 500 employees), an American manufacturer of antibiotics and respiratory products.
