Towards strengthened scientific and technological cooperation

Brussels, 11/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - During his visit to Moscow (from 8 to 11 September), Commissioner Philippe Busquin met Vice Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov, Director General for the Russian Space Agency RosAviaKosmos Yuri Koptev, as well as Industry Minister Alexander Dondukov and Atomic Energy Minister Evgueni Adamov. These meetings allowed discussion on concrete ways to consolidate scientific and technological cooperation between the European Union and Russia, mainly in the space field. Discussions with Mr Dondukov and Mr Adamov mainly covered the role of the International Centre for Science and Technology, created in partnership, on possible cooperation within the framework of the Tacis Programme on aspects relating to the safety of nuclear installations.

Mr Busquin will be speaking at the European Parliament on Thursday before the Committee on Industry. On this occasion, he is expected above all to evoke the assessment of the Framework Programme for Research and the next reform of the EU Joint Research Centre.
