30/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - Will Colonel Gaddhafi take part in the Euro-Mediterranean Summit in Marseilles? In response to this question, in Wednesday's Le Figaro, EU Council President Hubert Védrine said: "He could be if there is indeed a summit - which is not certain at this stage. For now, we are preparing a meeting at ministerial level that could result in a summit" (Ed.: the ministerial meeting of the Barcelona Process scheduled for 13 November). Mr Védrine, who said the normalisation process with Libya is "independent of the hostages" in Jolo (crisis in which Tripoli plays a mediating role) but that "it may be continued all the more", added: "so that a summit may be held in Marseilles-the situation of the Middle East Peace Process must not be used by some participants as a pretext to block the work".
