29/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - Before his departure for a European tour that will take him to Paris, London and Berlin, the new Israeli Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shlomo Ben-Ami, in an interview with the Financial Times, raised in particular the possibility that the European Union support the unilateral proclamation of a Palestinian State. "I do not think that this is their policy. The support given to a unilateral declaration by the Palestinians, at this time, would be highly counterproductive", said Mr Ben-Ami. Let us recall that the Palestinian Minister for planning and international cooperation, Nabil Chaath, this summer, visited twelve of the fifteen EU Member States, finishing his tour in Paris on the 25 August. On this occasion, he announced to the Monde that the proclamation of the Palestinian State is "the most important non violent card that we have in our hand".
