American companies CNET (turnover $112.4 million in 1999) and ZDNET (turnover $145 million in 1999), both specialised in high-tech information, are to merge. More specifically, CNET will absorb ZDNET after a share swap giving the move a value of $1.6 billion, with ZDNET shareholders holding 35% of the new entity. The new group will have 16.6 million visitors per month, will employ 1,600 and is expected to generate a turnover of $500 million in 2001.
