12/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commission decided to open infringement proceeding against Italy for the freeze in its tariffs for "third party car" insurance contracts. Since last 29 March, a law banns all insurance companies operating in Italy from freely setting their commercial offers and their rates. The Commission believes that these measures are a barrier to the free movement of insurance products in the European Union. The Italian authorities have three weeks to answer the Commission.
