Adopting of Community support framework for Objective 1 aid in Ireland

Brussels, 07/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Barnier signed, on Friday in Dublin, the "Community support framework" for Objective 1 aid in Ireland. This document outlines the priorities for Community interventions between 2000 and 2006 for a total amount of EUR 3.17 billion. The Objective 1 aids are targeted a under developed regions (GDP per inhabitant below 75% of Community average) and Commissioner Barnier welcomed this "extraordinary dynamism in the Irish economy" and the success of previous regional aid programmes means that Ireland benefits less from the Objective than previously. "I am very impressed," announced the Commissioner in Dublin, "by the performance of the Irish economy these last years. The EU is proud to have played a part in this remarkable transformation through the structural funds, which the Irish authorities have been able to use so effectively." EUROPE will return to the priorities set by the Community support framework.
