Brussels, 28/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission spokesman's service pointed out that President Prodi will be taking position on the draft institutional reform presented by French President Jacques Chirac before the German Parliament (see page 4 of this issue). The Commission, in general, welcomes the fact that the debate has been rekindled on the aims of European construction to which the Chirac project makes an important contribution. In answer to questions on several specific aspects of this project, including, above all, the hypothesis of creating an ad hoc secretariat for the "pioneer group" of Member States, the spokesman referred to what Mr Prodi will be saying in several days' time, recalling that the Commission is preparing a White Paper on governance in Europe where the problems evoked by Mr Chirac will be dealt with in detail.
