The German-American group DAIMLERCHRYSLER has announced the acquisition of 34% of the Japanese maker MITSUBISHI MOTORS for the sum of EUR 2.1 billion, an acquisition which concerns passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Payment will be made through a capital increase in MITSUBISHI MOTORS at the price of 450 yen per share. Furthermore, according to the weekly Focus, DAIMERCHRYSLER is to sell its computer services subsidiary DEBIS SYSTEMHAUS (turnover EUR 2.9 billion in 1999 with a presence in 22 countries) to the German telecommunications group DEUTSCHE TELEKOM for nearly EUR 6.14 billion. DEUTSCHE TELEKOM is expected to acquire 51% of the capital of DEBIS and of its foreign subsidiaries and would take over control of the remainder next year.
