Brussels, 06/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - Concerned about the cessation of the EU's negotiations with Beijing, the FTA and Eurocommerce have urged the European Commission to be flexible so as to rapidly conclude a bilateral agreement on China's accession to the World Trade Organisation. "This would help strengthen the WTO and the cause of free trade after the Seattle fiasco and also European exports, including the services sector where the Chinese market offers important opportunities", commented representatives of European importers. And they warned: "Seeking 100% satisfaction of EU wishes is unrealistic. Further postponement would give fresh impetus to the powers within the US Congress which all along have been opposed to Chinese accession."
