ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) energy

The British gas and electricity company POWERGEN (£3.746 bn turnover in 1999) has announced the purchase of the American company LG&E (gas and electricity, $2.7 bn turnover in 1999, with a market share of 25% in the electricity sector in the United States) for $3.233 bn. Through this operation, POWERGEN intends becoming "one of the top international companies in gas and electricity".
