04/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission's spokesman's services have confirmed that Vodafone has until Monday 7 February to submit its undertakings to sell assets in its takeover of Mannesmann. The public bid having been notified on 14 January, the Commission has in principle to decide by 17 February whether to approve the operation or open an in-depth enquiry. Should Vodafone notify further commitments, the deadline would be extended by two weeks, or until end-February (see EUROPE of 20 January, p.15). The 180 billion euro operation will create the world's foremost telephony group with a portfolio of over 30 million subscribers.
