Brussels, 13/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on Thursday that it had begun eleven infringement proceedings against three Member States for failure to comply with Community rules on public procurement: lack of transposition of certain directives into national law or irregularities in the awarding of some contracts.
In two cases of non-transposition, concerning Germany and Italy, infringement proceedings were initiated at the Court of Justice. In the other cases, concerning Italy, Austria and Germany, the Commission sent reasoned opinions, the second phase of the procedure. The cases of irregular contracts are in one case (Germany) taken to the Court of Justice, and in others (Germany and Italy) are the subject of reasoned opinions.
EUROPE will publish these procedures on a case by case basis tomorrow.
