Brussels, 04/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the Western European Union (which, in the first half of the year 2000, coincides with that of the Council of the European Union) will, on Tuesday 11 January, present its programme to the WEU Council, meeting at ambassadorial level in the presence of Javier Solana, WEU Secretary General (and of the EU Council).
The ministerial session of the WEU Council (foreign and defence ministers) will be held in Oporto on 15 and 16 May.
In the second half of the year, it will be France that will assume the presidency-in-office of the Western European Union, at the same time as that of the European Union.
