23/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – European Commissioner for Justice, Michael McGrath stressed the importance of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which has been in force since 2023 and already underpins more than €1,000 billion in trade. “The EU remains committed to this Framework, whilst continuing to monitor it closely to guarantee the highest standards of data protection,” he said on social media on Wednesday 22 July, following his visit to Washington this week, where he met, among others, the Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Andrew Ferguson. This visit followed the ruling handed down in June by the Supreme Court of the United States, which found the independence of certain US executive bodies, including the Federal Trade Commission, to be unconstitutional. The Commission is currently assessing the potential implications of this decision for the bilateral agreement (see EUROPE 13900/19). (APH)
