Council of EU authorises delayed release of Copernicus data on Sea of Oman

14/07/2026 (Agence Europe)The Council of the EU has instructed the European Commission to take the appropriate measures “to ensure that the dissemination of any data acquired by Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellites concerning a specific geographical area forming part of the Sea of Oman is delayed by 24 hours from the acquisition of such data”, according to a legal decision published on Tuesday 14 July in the Official Journal of the European Union. This decision follows a US request on 26 May. The request was accepted so that “products of the Union Space Programme [...] are not used by any third State or non-State actor in such a way as to present a threat to the interests of the Union and its Member States in the region or to those of their allies”, the legal decision specifies. The United States and Iran are currently in conflict in the region. Read the decision: https://aeur.eu/f/mvz (CG)
