14/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 July, the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) approved the provisional political agreement reached with the Council of the European Union on 12 May (see EUROPE 13867/7) on the Regulation on critical medicinal products. The permanent representatives of Member States to the European Union (Coreper I) had already approved this compromise on 13 June. The text aims to improve the availability and security of supply of critical medicinal products, as well as the availability and accessibility of medicines of common interest. Before the vote, the rapporteur, Tomislav Sokol (EPP, Croatian), said that this text would improve security of supply, support the European pharmaceutical industry, reduce dependencies on imports from India and China, and support joint procurement between Member States.
