European Commission calls for changes to French bill restricting minors’ access to social networks

08/07/2026 (Agence Europe)The European Commission has called for changes to the French bill aimed at restricting access to social networks for minors under 15, in an opinion sent to the French authorities. “We fully share the objective of the French authorities: minors must be better protected online. The Commission’s opinion seeks to ensure that any national measure is both effective and compliant with European Union law. We must limit as far as possible the fragmentation of national systems, which could create legal uncertainty or weaken the enforcement of the rules”, Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier told Agence Europe. On 13 July, the Commission will receive the recommendations of the special panel of experts on child safety online, which “will help guide the next actions at European Union level(see EUROPE 13903/25)(APH)
