The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) published its 2025 annual report on Tuesday 7 July, in which it states that several of its recommendations on the right to independent living were taken up by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, following its review of the European Union’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The network says it devoted a significant share of its activities to this assessment, particularly regarding Article 19 of the Convention on independent living.
ENIL also, looking back at its actions relating to European funds, State aid for sheltered workshops, legal capacity, housing, personal assistance, employment and deinstitutionalisation, recalls that it has opposed the use of public funding for segregated facilities and called for such funding to be channelled towards the inclusion of people with disabilities.
In addition, in 2025, ENIL organised 27 public events, took part in 162 events, published 20 position papers and 12 reports, and conducted three campaigns, which brought together just over 1,000 participants at its events.
