On Thursday 2 July, the European Commission presented a revised version of the rolling list of its Restrictions Roadmap under REACH, the EU chemicals legislation governing the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances, in order to protect human health and the environment against chemical risks (see EUROPE 13896/1).
The REACH Restrictions Roadmap provides an updated overview of current and forthcoming restrictions concerning hazardous substances under the REACH Regulation. The published revision introduces a clearer structure, highlights progress made since 2022 (the year the roadmap was launched) and incorporates new entries, thereby reinforcing transparency and supporting stakeholder engagement throughout the restriction process.
Since 2022, eleven REACH restrictions covering hundreds of hazardous substances have been adopted, six others are in the final stages of the evaluation process, and work continues on major initiatives such as restrictions on PFAS (forever chemicals), hexavalent chromium substances, octocrylene, and other persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic and endocrine-disrupting substances.
The revised roadmap illustrates the Commission’s commitment to reducing human and environmental exposure to hazardous chemical substances, according to the institution.
