04/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is following with concern developments in the regional state of Tigray (Ethiopia), where tensions between the government in Addis Ababa and Eritrea have been rekindled. “We call for immediate de-escalation and avoidance of any actions that jeopardise the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, signed in Pretoria in November 2022,” said a spokesperson for the European External Action Service on Thursday 30 April. “It is imperative that another devastating conflict is avoided, and that differences between parties are resolved via political dialogue,” he added. On 20 April, the European Commission announced the official resumption of EU budget support to Ethiopia, which had been suspended for more than six years because of the conflict, pending reforms by the Ethiopian government (see EUROPE 13852/6).
