27/04/26 (Agence Europe) – The Presidents of the European Council, António Costa, the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, as well as the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, denounced political violence in the United States over the weekend, following an attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington. “Political violence has no place in public life and must be firmly rejected”, stressed Mr Costa on X, echoing the words of Ms von der Leyen - who has spoken with US President Donald Trump - and Ms Metsola. “This was an attack on our free and open societies. We stand for democracy and in solidarity with the United States”, stressed Mr Rutte, also on X. A gunman, whose motives could be political, was arrested outside the room where the American President was located. (CG)
