27/04/26 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 27 April, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce threatened the EU with countermeasures if it adopts the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA). “If the EU ignores China’s suggestions (made to the Commission on 24 April) and insists on adopting this text, thereby damaging the interests of Chinese companies, China will have no choice but to take countermeasures,” it warned. According to Beijing, the text “imposes numerous restrictions on foreign investment in four strategic emerging sectors: batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaics and critical raw materials; it introduces exclusive EU origin clauses in public procurement and public support policies”. European Commission spokeswoman Siobhan McGarry reiterated that the EU was “one of the most open markets in the world” and expected its openness to be reciprocated. (CG and MB)
