20/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 April in Strasbourg, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, designated the Palais de l’Europe, the headquarters of the Council of Europe, as a “Patrimoine de la diplomatie française” or French diplomatic heritage site. “It is here that the heart of European multilateralism beats”, declared the Minister at the unveiling of the plaque and before a speech to the parliamentary assembly in which he stressed the importance of “rearming Europe democratically” in the face of “the headwinds of populism and revisionism that have made the rule of law their scapegoat”. Launched in June 2025 by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the ‘Patrimoine de la Diplomatie’ initiative aims to identify outstanding French sites that have been the setting for diplomatic events.
