17/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – Following an annual review of the European restrictive measures in application in the light of the situation in Zimbabwe, the Council of the EU decided on Tuesday 17 February to extend the arms embargo by one year, until 20 February 2027. On the other hand, the EU countries have lifted all provisions relating to the possibility of imposing a travel ban and asset freeze. Sanctions have been in place since 15 February 2011, and until then had been renewed annually. “The EU remains constructively engaged with Zimbabwe and looks forward to deepening the bilateral relations across a broad range of areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment. The EU will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these measures in the light of any future developments”, stated the Council in a press release on Tuesday afternoon. (BD)
