12/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – In the wake of the visit to Syria by the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission (see EUROPE 13783/3), the spokesman for the European External Action Service on Saturday 10 January called for an end to hostilities in and around Aleppo. “We urge all parties to implement the ceasefire announced today (on the same day) and to return urgently to a political dialogue for a political solution,” he stressed in a press release. The spokesman reiterated “the importance of protecting civilians at all times and easing access for humanitarian aid”. “Reaching stability across the country is a key element to ensuring a sustainable and inclusive transition that meets the aspirations of all Syrians,” he added. On 11 January, the Syrian government took control of the city of Aleppo after days of deadly fighting in the Kurdish districts. (CG)
