Coalition of NGOs calls on citizens to defend ‘imported deforestation’ regulation in call for evidence for ‘environment’ omnibus

Brussels, 29/08/2025 (Agence Europe)At the end of August, Together4Forests, a coalition of NGOs, urged citizens to participate in the call for evidence that the European Commission launched at the end of July in preparation for the ‘environment’ omnibus (see EUROPE 13686/9) in order to defend the regulation that aims to combat imported deforestation, which is, once again, in danger of being amended. After a one-year postponement (see EUROPE 13549/34), an initial simplification of its implementation (see EUROPE 13623/8), and several attempts to simplify it further these past few months, the regulation is, once again, being targeted by companies and organisations in the agricultural sector (see EUROPE 13676/34) as well as by the European People’s Party and the far right in the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13677/4). Because it is “extremely important” for citizens to show that they want to “keep the EU’s environmental laws strong”, the NGO is calling on citizens to respond to the call for evidence with supporting evidence.
