26/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 June, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) adopted the revision and extension of the regulation on gas storage, including new flexibilities for Member States (47 votes in favour, 8 against and no abstentions). Only the ESN and Patriots for Europe groups, and one non-attached MEP did not support the text. It will now have to be put to the vote at the July plenary session. The co-legislators reached an agreement on the evening of 24 June (see EUROPE 13652/14, 13667/13). The EU Council is due to vote on the text on Friday 27 June in the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper), just before the end of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, which has been working towards a rapid agreement so that the new provisions can come into force before the winter of 2025-2026.
