27/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 March, the European Commission welcomed the fact that the new “mid-term” call for tenders for the joint purchase of gas via the AggregateEU mechanism (see EUROPE 13598/12) had enabled supply and demand for almost 20 billion cubic metres of gas to be matched. Participants will now be able to negotiate contracts bilaterally. For this second call, demand from European companies amounted to 29 billion cubic metres, while “reliable” international and European suppliers offered nearly 31 billion cubic metres of gas to European buyers. In total, the European Commission has carried out seven demand aggregation cycles since April 2023, which have resulted in almost 100 billion cubic metres being put out to tender to cover European demand.
