04/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – A European Commission spokesperson said on Monday 3 March that the European Commission would not commit to the reinstallation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline linking Russia and Germany, which was completed in 2021 but was never put into operation after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and an act of sabotage in 2022. “Nord Stream 2 is not a project of common interest, it does not diversify EU’s energy sources and also to note, gas has never been delivered to Europe via this pipeline”, explained the spokesperson. “What our position has been is for this project, if it is built, it has to operate in line with international and European relevant legislation”, she added. This statement follows the revelation in the Financial Times of discussions between Russia and American investors, who are reportedly working behind the scenes to restart the project. (PLD)
