03/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 December, the spokesman for the European External Action Service called on all parties in Syria to de-escalate and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as unhindered humanitarian access in accordance with international humanitarian law. Over the last few days, rebels have succeeded in retaking parts of northern Syria from government forces, including the city of Aleppo. “We condemn the airstrikes by Russia on densely populated areas and its continued support to the Assad regime’s repression”, the spokesman added in a statement. He said that the latest escalation shows once again the need for a Syrian-owned political solution to the conflict in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. (CG)
