22/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a new report published on 13 November, the EU’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has identified 18 product categories that could be included in the new EU regulation on ecodesign for sustainable products (see EUROPE 13418/23), which came into force last July. The regulation sets out to establish binding criteria for products in Europe in order to make them sustainable. The report will be used to decide which products will be priorities from 2025 onwards, based in particular on their environmental impact. 18 product categories were identified: 11 end products (textiles and footwear, furniture, tyres, mattresses, detergents, paints and varnishes, lubricants, cosmetics, toys, fishing gear, absorbent hygiene products) and 7 intermediate products (iron and steel, commodity chemicals, non-ferrous and non-aluminium metal products, aluminium, plastics and polymers, pulp and paper, glass).
