29/08/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 28 August, the European Union condemned “in the strongest terms” last Saturday’s terrorist attack in Barsalogho, Burkina Faso, claimed by the jihadist organisation Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM). According to AFP, two videos, shared on social networks and attributed by various sources to the JNIM, showed assailants firing on piles of bodies, tangled up in the middle of what looked like a trench. At least 91 people were counted in the images. The EU deplored “hundreds of casualties”. A group of relatives of the victims put the death toll to “at least 400”. On Wednesday, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, encouraged “all efforts to counter” the cycles of violence. “The fight against terrorism in the Sahel must not waver”, he said.
